WELCOME

Welcome to Cakes By Sammie. I have started this blog to keep a note & pictures of my new hobby. Everything I've learnt so far I've taught myself, along with a little help from one of May Clee Cadmans (of Masie Fantasie) books.
All photographs are taken by myself -I enjoy photographing the cakes as much as I do making (& eating) them.

Butterfly butter cookies - very yummy indeed!!
This was my 1st attempt at making cookies, quite pleased with how they came out although the icing could be a little better.

New piping bag!

Got a wider nozzle for my piping bag (eventually - I have no idea why these things are so hard to come across!) so thought Id try it out along with my new flower cutters & pink foil cases!

Pink Blossom

These would be perfect for any girlie party or wedding. Or even just with a cup of tea for an afternoon snack. Pretty handmade sugarpaste flowers on white fondant icing.

Jellybean cupcakes, complete with buttercream frosting & sugar sprinkles (made by using some food colourig on sugar) perfect for kids parties... yum yum!

My ideal cake!!

So... if I could have the perfect cake this would be it! I love pink & brown combo & polka dots (can you tell?! lol) It's choc fudge cake inside, and I just went with the flow designing it. I made the bow at the top out of icing, but I must say nail extentions & icing really don't mix!!!

Purple Polka Dot & Coordinating Cupcakes!

My first 2 tier cake! Went for a purple theme with polka dot ribbon, and hand made icing stars on wire. I also make a few matching cupcakes to go with.

Choc-tastic!

I went all out and made some delicious choc fudge cupcakes tonight & oh.my.god, they are AMAZING!! Probably should've used a bit more choc in the buttercream to make it a bit darker, but still tastes great. Made some pink hearts and flowers to go on top and co-ordinate with the pink cases. Yum yum yummy!

Baby Boys Christening Cake...

I just had a vision & had to make it. Am really pleased with the finished result. For my 2nd cake anyway. 8" cake, baby blue icing stars and topped with a cute pair of blue baby booties.

Girlie Cupcakes...

Well I couldn't stay away from them for long! Well, I had to test out my new hot pink & white polka dot cases!! ;) These are vanilla sponge & buttercream with sugar sprinkles & pink flowers & some ones with pink buttercream & silver sugar balls. Perfect for a girlie party.

My 1st Cake!!

Moving on from cupcakes (FINALLY!) I wanted to try and make and decorate proper cake. I made a victoria sponge and covered it in white and pink polka dot icing, some ribbon and a matching pink feather. I love pink & I love polka dots so this would be my perfect cake!!
Am really pleased with my efforts & it tasted amazing, even if I do say so myself ;)

Cupcake Crazy...

Ok I think I'm going a little cupcake crazy here but had some ingredients left over & was rather hungry so decided to make these. Same principle as the previous ones but pink shimmery hearts instead of stars. And teeny red edible hearts as a sprinkle. These would be perfect for Valentines day!

One for the boys....

Seeing as Im pink obsessed I thought I'd better make something for the boys. Again, I used my fav vanilla sponge recipie from one of may clee cadmans books & a yummy vanilla buttercream topping. I made the stars from flowerpaste and used a coating of snowflake lustre to make them shimmer. I'm really pleased with how these came out and I LOVE the silver cases too!

Second attempt...

My second attempt at making cupcakes & I used a glacier icing on vanilla sponge. Again, I don't think they turned out too bad. I didn't make the toppers for these though, I cheated & bought them from Asda.

My First Cupcakes...

So, I decided to give baking a try. It's something that I've always wanted to do but never really had the guts. I thought I'd start off with some vanilla cupcakes, with vanilla buttercream icing. I made the little butterflies myself using flowerpaste. Don't think they turned out too bad for a 1st attempt & they certainly tasted yummy!!
